SERICA Product Materials Guide
SERICA jewelry is designed around precious metals and expressive gemstones. This guide explains the core materials we use, how they behave over time, and how to care for them so each piece can stay beautiful for longer.
1. 925 Sterling Silver
925 sterling silver is not 100% pure silver. It is made with 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, most commonly copper. The added copper improves hardness and durability, making silver more suitable for detailed jewelry designs and gemstone settings.
As a precious metal, sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time, gradually developing a warmer vintage tone on the surface. Daily exposure to water, perfume, sweat, lotions, or chemicals can speed up this process.
2. 18K-24K Gold Plated / Heavy Gold Plated
Our 925 gold-plated jewelry uses 925 sterling silver as the base metal, finished with an 18K-24K gold plating layer through electroplating.
Gold tone: yellow gold styles are finished with 24K gold plating, while rose gold styles are finished with 18K rose gold plating.
Gold thickness: all SERICA 925 gold-plated pieces follow a unified plating thickness of approximately 1.0 to 2.5 microns. This belongs to a heavy gold plated level, offering better durability and a longer-lasting finish than ordinary thin gold plating.
Visual effect: this construction combines the comfortable lightness of sterling silver with the warm, luxurious glow of gold.
3. 18K-24K Solid Gold
Solid gold jewelry does not always mean 100% pure gold. Pure 24K gold, with 99.9% gold content, is very soft and requires extra care for daily wear. SERICA may offer selected designs or custom pieces in 18K gold, 22K gold, or 24K gold depending on the design, setting, and intended use.
| Gold Purity | Gold Content | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 18K Gold | 75% gold | Higher hardness, excellent for gemstone setting, stable color, and widely used in the international fine jewelry market. |
| 22K Gold | 91.7% gold | Deeper and warmer gold tone, moderate hardness, suitable for traditional designs, carving, and statement pieces. |
| 24K Gold | 99.9% gold | The purest and softest gold, with the richest gold color. Best for plain gold styles and should be worn with extra care. |
Benefits of solid gold: solid gold does not fade, has strong value retention, and is generally hypoallergenic for most wearers. Fine surface scratches may appear after long-term wear; this is a normal sign of use and can often be improved through professional polishing and refinishing.
Gemstones and Natural Character
SERICA pieces may feature ruby, sapphire, lab-grown diamonds, natural amber, turquoise, lapis lazuli, crystal, and a wide range of natural semi-precious stones. Natural gemstones can show variations in color, texture, inclusions, and pattern. These natural details are part of the individuality of each piece.
Amber, turquoise, lapis lazuli, pearls, and some crystals are more sensitive to heat, impact, water, and chemicals. Please avoid soaking them, ultrasonic cleaning, or exposing them to strong sunlight for long periods.
